I'm feeling thankful

As I reflect on the goodness in my life it's obvious there's lot more to Thanksgiving than good company and a plate full of turkey. What I have I owe to God, he has really blessed me.

I could go on about my family and the friends I have and how much they add to my life. I could tell you about the joys of exploring the island every weekend in my shiny, jacked-up Jeep. I could be, and I am, thankful for my ability to hold down a good job that supplies all the gas, steak, Brew Pub trips, scuba gear rentals and ipods I could ever want.

I'm grateful for all of these things. But they seem minor when compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord. It blows my mind, a God bigger and more holy than anything I can ever understand, is also more loving than I'll ever comprehend. I'm amazed that he makes himself known to those who seek him, and that he offers us salvation. When I realize our magnificent God chose to make himself known to me, I'm completely blown away. I'm not sure the words thanksgiving, gratefulness or gratitude fully grasp what I feel.

Tread Head

If my dirt bike lessons with Chris continue, maybe one day I'll live up to my college nickname, Tread Head. Nate first called me that at an AMA Supercross race in Indianapolis in 1996. I don't know if I've ever seen anything as delightful as Jeremy McGrath launching his bike 30 feet into the air, dirt flying, and smoke filling my nostrils.

I've never driven a motorcycle before, so for now it's slow going- practicing an obstacle course made of soup cans. I did pop my fist wheelie and lay a little rubber in the church parking lot, so I think there's potential.
Going Underground

Chris and I explored the area mauka of the airport in search of lava tubes. We parked near the Tripple Puka Cave (the huge lava tube you see from the highway) and followed it up hill. We explored a few dead ends, then we climbed into a huge skylight and discovered that cave kept going. At times the ceiling was 15 feet high and other spots required crawling. My favorite section was the double deck (pictured below) We popped out the bottom of cave and realized there was another cave above us. After plenty of fun and adventure we climbed out a small skylight to discover we had gone about 3/4 mile from where we started. Chris has a map of a couple more caves in the area, so there's more fun to be had next time!

Our exit:

A double decker. We came out the bottom cave to realize there was another cave above us to explore.

Dive Day

A group of 10 WHT employees took to the sea today on a diving adventure. Our first dive was at 8AM at 4-mile on Alii Drive. The highlight was finding a white tip reef shark sleeping in a cave.

Our next dive spot was at the harbor. We saw a ray (eagle ray I thing) tons of garden eels, a moray eel, and watched Travis's shenanigans- he let a shrimp climb in his mouth and clean his teeth.

I'm happy to know the underwater housing for my digital camera holds up- it made it to 93 feet and didn't leak a drop.

We didn't get to see his teeth

I think I've mentioned before I carry a camera in the water as shark insurance. I figure I'll never get close to a shark when I have the chance to take his picture. But this reasoning proved to be untrue, as evidenced by the video below.

We were diving at the 4 mile marker off Alii Drive today and came across a small white tip reef shark sleeping in a cave. He didn't like my flash going off in his face so I didn't take many stills.
