Going Underground

Chris and I explored the area mauka of the airport in search of lava tubes. We parked near the Tripple Puka Cave (the huge lava tube you see from the highway) and followed it up hill. We explored a few dead ends, then we climbed into a huge skylight and discovered that cave kept going. At times the ceiling was 15 feet high and other spots required crawling. My favorite section was the double deck (pictured below) We popped out the bottom of cave and realized there was another cave above us. After plenty of fun and adventure we climbed out a small skylight to discover we had gone about 3/4 mile from where we started. Chris has a map of a couple more caves in the area, so there's more fun to be had next time!
