Underwater Views

I haven't posted any underwater pictures for a long time, so here are a few I took last weekend at Makalawena.

A honu floats near above the reef.

Squid are pelagic and nocturnal but I have seen them close to shore a few times in daylight. They are strange creatures but they are also very quick- especially when being hunted by pods of dolphins.

A quick dive under an arch at Makalawena. Listen closely for the singing Humpback Whales.

WOW! That's awesome!!! What kind of camera and/or housing do you have??? That's incredible, and it was so clear under the water, but it looks like a pretty dreary day out there! :) ~Mele

I have a Sony Cybershot. The housing is just a soft plastic bag thing with several strips of velcro. It doen't work below about 20 feet because the camera is a touch screen and the water pressure presses the bag against the camera and the controls no longer work. But it's never leaked.

What an outstanding photo, looking so realistic. I always have an image in my mind of my first honu, at Captain Cook, around 1984. It swam next to me in deep water for a long while... before realizing I wasn't a turtle! I love this this shot.
